So it’s time for the house or office remodel that you’ve been waiting for. You’ve made decisions about design and you plan to install hardwoods, laminate, or maybe you’re refreshing the space with new carpet.
This means that you have to get rid of your old, dirty carpet, but it’s usually too bulky to be accepted in regular trash disposal services. So what do you do with it?
Carpet is made out of various natural and synthetic fibers and at Junk Command we understand the ins and outs of responsible carpet removal while keeping the environment and community in mind.
While new or unused carpet can be donated to local charities, used carpet is difficult to donate because it is considered a health concern. Most charities don’t have the manpower to deal with cleaning a used carpet to meet resale standards and you don’t want to go through the trouble of having your carpet deep cleaned only to find out that charities won’t accept it.
Billions of pounds of carpet are disposed of each year and most of this waste ends up in landfills; so, while donation may not be the right route, recycling is a great option that provides the least impact because nearly all carpets are recyclable on some level.
Carpet pads are typically easy to recycle because they are made of one material while the carpet itself can be more difficult because it is made of multiple: the face fabric which can be wool, polyester, nylon, olefin, or an assortment of fibers, and the backing which is usually a latex product. However, both carpet pads and carpet can be broken down and reused in the manufacturing of new carpet which saves it from the landfill and reduces consumption of new resources.
It can be stressful in the midst of a home or office renovation to worry about where and how to recycle your used carpet, but no matter the job, we can handle it for you. By opting for eco-friendly carpet recycling whenever possible, we will recycle it as much as possible at the proper facilities and if we do have to discard, we make sure that it’s done in a way that minimizes the impact to the community.
At Junk Command, we bring all the tools to remove your carpet for you, load it into our truck, and clean up afterward, so that you can get back to redesigning your space. Think of us when you need carpet removal in Minneapolis, MN.
